Sky’s movie channels will again be awash with Christmas films during the festive period, and there are some interesting premieres in there worthy of attention.

Fans of Christmas films who have Sky Cinema/Movies can dive in to a host of Christmas films already available through their on-demand services, however there are some films that have been theatrical releases in the last year or two which will be getting their UK television premieres on the Sky channels.

Here is the best of them, as well as the dates you can expect to see them.

Christmas in the Smokies (2015)

Tuesday 7th November, Sky Cinema Premiere

Finally being shown on UK television, Christmas in the Smokies tells the story of Shelby, played by Sarah Lancaster, who has helped to build her parent’s fruit business over a number of years. As the film name suggests, it’s set in the Smoky Mountains of Tennesse, and Shelby soon learns that the family farm is facing foreclosure.

Thankfully, big country music star Mason (Alan Powell), a former boyfriend of Shelby, returns to town, but there is little hospitality from Shelby. Can the pair get back on track and save the family business?

We’ve not yet seen this one, but it’s received decent enough reviews and write-ups to suggest it’s worth a watch. We’re looking forward to it.

Almost Christmas (2016)

Saturday 11th November

Last year’s release of Almost Christmas was one of the big festive films of the year, starring Hollywood veteran Danny Glover. Glover plays the part of Walter, a widowed husband who is preparing to spend Christmas with his four adult children and grandchildren. It will be the first time the family has celebrated the festive season together since the passing of Walter’s wife, so all is not likely to go well. Not at first, anyway.

Ratings-wise, IMDb gave this one a 6/10, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 49%. We’re not expecting anything special.

A Song for Christmas (2017)

Tuesday 14th November

This is a UK premiere as A Song for Christmas is a TV movie that is new for this year. It follows the story of single parents who meet and grow close as Christmas approaches. However, as the romance threatens to take-off, the pair learn that their teenage daughters are fierce rivals at school.

Winter Wedding (2016)

Tuesday 28th November

This is another TV movie, however we have a feeling it was initially released in 2016 under the title A Winter Bride (this needs to be confirmed). Either way, it stars Erin Krakow and Niall Matter, Krakow playing the part of Miranda who is heading home for Christmas.

By chance, she meets Ian (played by Matter) in an airport, who joins her in flying to Vermont. Once back home, an old family secret could not only destroy Christmas, but also drive the family apart. Can it all be rectified and the pair end of marrying? The name suggests so.

All of these movies will be available to Sky Cinema customers on Sky Go, while you can also access the library of Sky Cinema movies by purchasing a NOW TV movies pass.
