As we head rapidly toward winter, it’s time to look ahead to some of the best new Christmas movies in 2025 that we can forward to.

As temperatures drop and the nights draw in, the feel of autumn is definitely in the air. That means only one thing; Christmas isn’t far away.

When we begin to look ahead to Christmas each year, one of the first things we do is look at what festive films we have to look forward to. As ever, we’ve taken a thorough look at what’s to come you don’t have to.

Here’s the pick of them:

My Secret Santa

Netflix are never short of a new Christmas movie or two, and 2025 will be no exception. My Secret Santa is likely to be a popular one. The festive rom-com has been directed by Mike Rohl who directed Netlfix’s popular The Princess Switch trilogy (don’t pretend you haven’t seen at least one of them!).

The movie follows a single mum who decides to disguise herself as a man in order to get a job as Santa Claus at a high-end, luxury ski resort. However, things get a little complicated when she falls for the hotel manager.

This already feels like a great movie to watch when you want something easy to follow with a significant dose of festiveness! It’s currently expected to be released on Netflix on December 3rd.

A Merry Little Ex-Mas

If Christmassy rom-coms are your thing, then this is another for you. A Merry Little Ex-Mas is also coming out on Netflix this Christmas and has a cast with one or two names you may recognise; especially if you were a child or teenager in the 90s!

The lead role is filled by Alicia Silverstone, an actress with a filmography as long as it is impressive, while Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch) also stars. The movie is produced by Hartbreak Films, with Melissa Joan Hart and her mum Paula Hart producing this one for the family business.

A Merry Little Ex-Mas tells the story of a divorced couple of plan to have one final Christmas together with their children. However, as the festivities begin, the husband’s new girlfriend arrives.

We’re excited for this one, we think it could be pretty good, if not a slightly typical chaotic family festive film. But then, that’s not a bad thing.

A Merry Little Ex-Mas is set for release on Netflix on November 12th

Jingle Bell Heist

Continuing the theme of festive rom-coms for 2025, Netflix have another one up their sleeve; Jingle Bell Heist.

We love a Christmas movie that’s set in New York City, and this one is exactly that. So, they’ve got our attention.

Jingle Bell Heist follows the story of two thieves who decide to rob one of New York’s most famous department stores in the midst of the holiday season. While doing so, they accidentally fall in love.

The lead roles of said thieves are played by Olivia Holt and Connor Swindells, while brilliant British actress Lucy Punch (Hot Fuzz and Motherland) also stars.

Jingle Bell Heist is due to be released on Netflix on 26th November.

Silent Night, Deadly Night

Right, moving away from all that festive gush, if you want something altogether more terrifying, then this remake of the 1984 festive slasher of the same name needs to be on your list.

As you’ve probably correctly assumed, this is a horror movie. It tells the heart-warming tale of a kid who witnessed his parents murdered by someone in a Santa suit and goes on a blood-thirsty quest for retribution when he grows up.

This one looks like it will be released in cinemas across USA, Canada, UK and Ireland on 12th December.

Christmas Karma

Now, if you want something totally different to the rom-com or predictable comedy movies the festive season is known for, then this Bollywood musical-inspired adaption of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol could be for you.

This British film has one of the most random collection of cast members imaginable, from Eva Longoria to Boy George, and from Danny Dyer to Hugh Bonneville.

Such is the array of talent in this musical drama, written and directed by Gurinder Chadha, that it’s tempting to go see and it just to see how everything knits together. It’s a classic festive story retold in a way perhaps it has never been before, and added to the fact that this is a cinematic release here in the UK, then it should definitely make your watch list.

It’s due to be released in cinemas across UK and Ireland on 14th November.

A Very Jonas Christmas

If you still haven’t found anything you like the sound of on this list, then you may give some consideration to A Very Jonas Christmas on Disney+. Or, you may not.

The comedy movie tells the story of the three Jonas Brothers – Kevin, Joe and Nick – as they try to get home from London to New York for the holidays, overcoming a multitude of obstacles along the way.

Unsurprisingly for a film of this name, it is written by, produced by and starred in by all three Jones brothers. Nothing if not confident. This one is due out on Disney+ on 14th November.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (25th Anniversary)

This one is not a new Christmas movie, but instead, Jim Carey’s modern classic celebrates its 25thanniversary this year. What better way to celebrate than head to the cinema and watch it on the big screen again? It releases (again) on December 5.

And that’s it for the 2025 Christmas movies to watch out for! Let us know on X, Facebook, Instagram or YouTube which you are most looking forward to!
